October 4th Market

Wow, I think just seven more markets to go for regular season market! We may skip a few in November. Not so much action going on in the fall vegetable department. We do have some incredible romaine lettuce coming on, carrots, salad mix. It feels like we're just gleaning at this point, harvesting gratuitous bounty off of plants on their last leg. Customers were so thrilled to see shitake mushrooms on Sat. I think our community is mushroom deprived. We're going to have to look into what other varieties we may be able to grow.

We are definitely mushroom-deprived around here, although your shitakes are incredibly good. I'd try to grow Pleurotus eryngii, aka the King Trumpet, French Horn, and King Oyster. We roasted some in Brooklyn last week and they almost made me cry they were so good.

I'm trying to think of the last food item that brought me close to tears...and I think I'm going to have to go with April's (Farmer's Daughter) sour cherry and chocolate tart she had one time this summer at the Carrboro Wed market. Absolute heaven. Thanks for the mushroom tip...we'll try and track them down and see what challenges they present.
